the medicaid cuts are horrible, its pretty much the one thing the govt does for us, especially if you take into account all the federal agencies that were recently shuttered or stripped down, and now its basically setup to fail.
Unfortunately due to the rules about not taxing insurance co's, its unlikely Oregon will be able to extend it the way we did in ny, and our's is probably going away as well. Tbh I'm just guessing since I dont know how they were planning on doing it in Oregon, but I think alot of those models are based on how NY did it. Hopefully someone will figure out a way around that one.
With the cost of living, I'm not even sure how you could even live here on the amount of income you need to quality. I'm *just* above the standard income requirement, so I'm def getting booted, and not paying for insurance is the only thing that allows me to even afford life while trying to start my own buisness. I mean, if I was working 20 *paying* hours a week then i wouldn't fucking need medicaid, wtf. Plus, I probably work like 40/50 hours a week if you take into account working on the website I hope to use for my biz, trying to get clients and my other 2 side projects that will hopefully make me $$ (and i dont even take weekends off). Also just to add insult to injury, none of this would be an issue if I got the grant I was on track to get for a Comp Sci research project I was working on. But guess what else got cut?
Yeah, I don't think OR has the money for a universal healthcare model. And worse yet we'll all be in limbo until 2026. This bill is hot garbage and so many people are saying it's just a transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top 1% and they are not wrong. I'm so tired. It's all horrible. Everything is terrible and there is no stopping it. Though all the podcasts I listen to keep encouraging us to keep going.
