OK, last week I was cursing SCOTUS and Stacy Abrams had a great episode about what’s going wrong. Everything, the answer to that is everything is horrible.
And of course there’s the giant fucking giveaway to billionaires shit bill. Which of course it passed. I am freaking out about my health coverage, I’m on the poor people Medicaid. Oregon is talking about trying to get a universal healthcare statewide but I wonder if the federal funds dry up the state can afford it.
I’m so tired y’all.
Another catscape watercolor sold! It’s been awhile! One of the expensive ones too! Not the BIG one that’s in the Square Foot art show. It’s unsold. And I’m pretty sure the gothlolita piece hasn’t sold either. But it’s nice to have sold something. I need more art supplies! I mean, that is a very relative statement. I WANT more art supplies, and I will certainly use the supplies I get. But I am pretty sure I mentioned how much I love the New York Central 100% cotton watercolor blocks. The paper is so responsive and takes the paint so beautifully! It’s the best bang for the buck I have found so far. Much better than the Fluid cotton watercolor blocks. The only issue with New York Central I have is the limited sizes. They don’t have 4”x6” or 6”x8”. You have to buy another size and cut it down.
I’m having trouble sizing the postcards, but I may settle on Moo prints for postcards which will suffice for mini prints right now. I may be able to move into more expensive things like giclee prints later.
This is the blue and orange abstract I mentioned last week. The photo isn’t very good. It’s almost hard to look at in real life.
Painted on illustration board. The lines are great right? Well, I am attempting a yellow and purple one on cradled birch and the lines turned to shit! Is it me? Is it the brushes? Should I be using mediums I’m not? I had to get out the fucking paint markers to accomplish smooth cloud lines for the birch one! Arg!! I think also, I might need a grippier surface? I have no fucking clue! I do love the acrylic paper though! So that might be what I use on the reg going forward. But I can’t afford much. Not is I want some more watercolor paper. The acrylic paper is very expensive and the sizes are more limited than the birch panels. The acrylic paper pads are about 10 sheets per pad and I’m not sure how cost effective that is. I would so dearly LOVE to be a full time artist. I said that about writing too, which never came to pass.
Anyway, I am trying hard not to sad-buy a doll. I won’t do it! I’m 80% sure I won’t do it. Okay, 75% sure… Luckily I have very finite funds and not much incoming so I really can’t. But sometimes I think I could… the percentage keeps shifting as the news keeps getting worse.
Enjoy some snapdragons.
the medicaid cuts are horrible, its pretty much the one thing the govt does for us, especially if you take into account all the federal agencies that were recently shuttered or stripped down, and now its basically setup to fail.
Unfortunately due to the rules about not taxing insurance co's, its unlikely Oregon will be able to extend it the way we did in ny, and our's is probably going away as well. Tbh I'm just guessing since I dont know how they were planning on doing it in Oregon, but I think alot of those models are based on how NY did it. Hopefully someone will figure out a way around that one.
With the cost of living, I'm not even sure how you could even live here on the amount of income you need to quality. I'm *just* above the standard income requirement, so I'm def getting booted, and not paying for insurance is the only thing that allows me to even afford life while trying to start my own buisness. I mean, if I was working 20 *paying* hours a week then i wouldn't fucking need medicaid, wtf. Plus, I probably work like 40/50 hours a week if you take into account working on the website I hope to use for my biz, trying to get clients and my other 2 side projects that will hopefully make me $$ (and i dont even take weekends off). Also just to add insult to injury, none of this would be an issue if I got the grant I was on track to get for a Comp Sci research project I was working on. But guess what else got cut?
