Too Tired for a Clever Title
I went to the tiniest protest on Saturday! Oh no!!! I even made a new sign for it! Apparently Labor Day is the big one.
But, hello Police State. It’s super bad.
OK, this one is religious BUT it speaks truth! I also have to say that a few years ago I read Bishop William Barber’s autobiography and it was fantastic. He’s an amazing person and incredibly inspiring.
I made a book order from Hamilton Books, my favorite overstock place. I have a couple of horror novels on the way AND an art book! It’s a book of Edward Gorey’s illustrated envelopes! Which I’m really looking forward to. I love illustrated envelopes and I have a lot of Edward Gorey art books. I love his stuff.
Oh! And I keep using that horrible watercolor paper!! To be fair I have also made mistakes but this shit will only take the most solid of paints and inks. But here is the other finished work I have so far. I posted some WIP pics of a gouache on the horrible watercolor paper. It would work better if I didn’t use such watered down gouache. Sigh… I told you I am worried about using gouache.
The black is just Speedball India Ink. I painted it in with brushes. I also inked it with red Pigma Micron after it was done. It’s… a thing, I guess. It will go in the drawer with all my other work. And did I mention that I think mixed media- watercolor and pastel- would go great on this paper?? The colored pencils were TERRIBLE but pastels! I am 99% sure would be great! Of course I don’t have pastels and can’t afford them (plus you have to buy fixative).
Oh, and remember that sketch of the girl with the snake and the smoke I posted awhile back and said it was a newer version of an old piece? WELL, I found the old piece! All the way back from 2013! I still haven’t sorted out my moldy wet palette! (It only got that way because I was sick for so long and didn’t use it). I think I’m going to have to buy a new sponge and new palette papers. Probs why I’m goofing off on that terrible watercolor paper.
I have a bunch of old unsold art from 2016-ish that still holds up! It was when I was buying panel space at cons. But a lot of it never sold. I had a great success at Westercon when it was held in Portland but all of my subsequent attempts to sell at Orycon were a disaster so I had to quit. I was never able to afford a mat cutter in order to mat and ship my work to cons. Cons usually require work to be ready to hang. So matting my work was the best bet, it’s also cheaper than full frames and less expensive to ship. I am NOT pursuing it! I am trying for galleries and of course my collectors! Thank you all so much for purchasing my work! I’m so glad that my art has found such good homes!
Anyhow, I have a fantasy cart at Alice’s Collections (doll dealer) that is over $1000!! LOL! That’s why it’s a fantasy cart! I am still fighting off my doll urges. Instead I ordered wooden cutouts in fun shapes I can paint with acrylics and sell. I hope.
Okay! We survived!

Thanks for protesting. I had friends who went to the Saturday protest, but I didn’t hear about it until too late.
Art looks good, bad watercolor paper notwithstanding. Also like girl with snake. It has Absinthe connotations too, with that color theme. Although mats can look a bit better, you could also just use backing boards, and clear-bags, and adhesive plastic hangers on the back for art shows. But Nevermind since you don’t do con shows any more.
