I found a wonderful article on urban parrots! It’s not a long read but a very interesting one. And monk parakeets take center stage in the article and of course I host TWO of the little brats! Samantha and Lyle :) So it’s fun to see their kind in articles. Parrots Are Taking Over the World They aren’t really, but I for one would welcome our fluffy overlords.
A little bit ago, like a week or so, I started doing a deep dive on Lenormand decks. Named after the fortune teller who invented the system (or at least managed to get her name stuck on it- so kudos for credit not going to a man), they are only 36 cards! Which actually puts them into the realm of do-able! For me! I could MAYBE actually draw a Lenormand deck! And then….. dare I say, submit it to publishers?? Am I good enough? Am I bad in the right way to still get my art published? I see a lot of, well, let’s say, interesting tarot decks that have a style, but maybe are, more folk art/self taught (is the nice way to put it). Problem is that I’m not a bad artist in the RIGHT way to get published and I’m not good enough to be considered a good artist. Also, Lenormand is a much smaller market than tarot. BUT I ordered a Lenormand from U.S. Games (along with an oracle deck *coughcoughspendingtoomuchmoneycough*. I swear it’s for research!
But honestly, it seems like a Lenormand is something I could actually succeed at. And I need to find some things I feel like I can succeed at before I die. I’m also vaguely thinking about writing again. I’m no where near ready to actually write again, but I’m thinking about writing which is a step towards actually writing. But another thing about Lenormand, a lot of the decks you find on Etsy are either simplistic digital art, photo manipulation or copyright free Victorian illustrations. Some are collaged vintage illustrations and there are even AI art decks. But there doesn’t seem like there are very many beautiful hand-drawn art decks, and that’s kind of the gap I want to fill. I can make more than one deck to- maybe… hopefully… with different themes and styles. Of course this relies on me NOT talking myself out of drawing a Lenormand in the first place.
I promised art again didn’t I? Well here you go, a Chingling trainer! I’m happy with the scarf and the sweater. I also got to break out the brand new BEIGE Prismacolor colored pencil I bought. And YES I bought BEIGE, the most dreaded of all colors and most maligned. But when you need an earthy neutral you need an earthy neutral. Hair ended up so-so.
I also realized I have an alarming number of incoming BJDs! A tiny from New Clover Singing, an MSD hybrid from Jane’s Dolland, AND lastly an Imomo Ruby I found on DoA. AND on top of that I am buying a DIM Kassia head for that free Doll Family body I got!! Yikes!!! To make matters worse Jane’s Dolland just added Evantasy dolls to their roster! ARG!!! Stop buying cute anime girls!
Anyway, I have to finish my manga reviews and turn them in on time!!
