They are… not great. Let me try to explain a little bit. You know how in a game of Telephone you whisper something and the words get passed down so that each version gets more and more mangled? That’s what happened to my pin templates AND my attempts to smooth the edges. I re-cut the pin templates from the originals on multimedia paper which was too thin not to buckle from the moisture of the clay. So I traced them onto cardboard, which was thicker than I anticipated, AND tried to correct some asymmetry only to make the asymmetry worse. SO these templates came out worse and when I cut the second run of pins the shapes were very distorted. Me trying to fix them also didn’t help.
The DREAM is to get custom 3D printed cookie cutters that will give me the consistency and clean edges I want. First I will be retracing the designs onto graph paper which I finally found in the garage. With great good luck this set will come out better. I found thinner cardboard and can hopefully create symmetrical designs with the graph paper. In preparation for the cookie cutter I will scan the designs in first so I can get a price estimate from the 3D printer. In the meantime the pins aren’t coming out great. I have been using a mix of traditional acrylic (trying to use up the paint I mixed for the Cloud Cat painting) and the paint markers. But parts are coming out sloppy and I can’t correct it because I am out of the mixed colors.
My Jerry’s Artarama order arrived and with it a third set of small tubes of Turner acryla gouache. They have three sets, Earth, Dream, and World so I have them all. I’d also like to buy another set of Ohuhu with some earthier tones than I have now. I love the pastels but I also love my earth tones! But another set is going to something like $172. But it’s not small! That’s for over a hundred markers! It may have to wait and go on my B-day list of presents.
Speaking of markers- I have been using them a lot! I’m no damn good at them, but I like it! (That’s an altered quote from Jackie Brown and literally the only thing I remember about that movie aside from Pam Grier. It’s kind of a gross quote but it was funny.)
Another Pokemon trainer! I could Pokemon trainers forever! I pretend most of the people I draw ARE Pokemon trainers and that’s the only thing that keeps me going sometimes. This is also me trying for that earth tone palette without having enough earth tones.
If you want to directly support my art supply habit and keep seeing my work you can send money directly to my Ko-Fi . I’m also going to sell the pins there?? It HAS a shop! I actually have two Pokemon paintings listed from 4 years ago? No takers obviously! I can take direct payments too, AND Substack has DMs?!!? So I think you can DM me about buying any of my art?
Want to see what I’m doing with my acrylics?? Here you go! And again, I have a Jerry’s cart full of more! I am actually liking what I’m doing? I still miss oils…. sigh… the blendability! Great blob I love oils! But we don’t really get things we want or wish for in life do we?
And done!!! Scans coming soon! I have a pile! It is FOR SALE! I don’t know how much…
Trying to get a good shot is a pain. But you get the gist! This is why I need more colors of acrylic! Jerry’s is having a sale of Grumbacher Academy which are their student line. So I’m making a big order! Throwing in a few Golden too. Not many, they are expensive and some of the tiny tube sets of Turner so I can keep working with them.
Anyway I want to SELL this painting! Could I sell paintings?? LOL! Probably not really. Not according to my lived experience on this planet. I’m going to post it on Ko-fi in my shop as soon as I have a scan. If the scan doesn’t come out I’ll just post a pic. I’m hoping to get $40 or better. I’m not sure what to charge. I keep hoping to make money somehow.
