It's the Corruption Stupid

News is terrible of course. And the Bulwark has nothing positive to add. Unless you like total economic collapse and authoritarian levels of corruption. Sorry it’s all Bulwark episodes. I Do recommend Katie Couric’s Youtube channel as well. She does a lot of great interviews.

All the fun stuff- military purges, corruption, fascism using force to destroy due process so they can remove critics and rivals.

I am trying to work on two postcard size pieces for submission to a gallery on the coast and I immediately, somehow ruined the first attempt! The Fluid 100% cotton watercolor paper is weird or terrible. I’m not sure. I’ve never run into paper that turned the watercolor grainy. The pigments didn’t soak in? To salvage it, I’m going to have to paint it with acrylic. The second one I might try illustration board. i need something that that can stand up to collaging. Technically both will be collages. Unless I give up and try to paint the third and fourth ideas I had for the theme. And both of those would be better off in acrylic gouache as well. Goddammit I just need opaque media I can LIVE WITH!!!

Update- The acrylic on watercolor is also having trouble. The wet palette is moldy! I had such high hopes! I have spritzed the sponge with hydrogen peroxide, I’m going to let it dry out, then re-wet with boiling water. I also chucked the palette paper and I’ll get out a fresh one. That will get a soak in boiling water too! ARG! I will say it’s been months without any trouble…. But I have a pile of acrylics I need to paint, especially since that fucking watercolor wouldn’t watercolor! In all likelihood I will go back to watercolor and use a different paper. I do have to get on the annual 12x12 show at the local art supply store. I’m gonna paint a cat in a teacup again, but keep it to one house to make it easy on myself.

This tan Imomo girl was purchased a year ago during the move that didn’t happen and this is the first time I have had her out and assembled! She’s been in the box until just last week when I finally got her put together. She shipped with her head off. Her hands are magnetic and keep falling off even though I added extra magnets to the wrist in the hopes that the magnets themselves were weak. Sigh…. Well, she’s super cute! I have another Imomo girl too, a Hack head on another body.

Here is an elevator horror movie double feature for you! It’s the original and the remake. I watched the original (also on Tubi) some time ago. The original is The Lift . And the remake is Down (The Shaft) . The same director made both films. I’m not sure if the remake is really worth it, the original was solid, though very much of the time, 1985. And the remake still feels like a 1985 film complete with frat boy level sexism and gratuitous nudity. But it’ll distract you from the political hellscape we live in for a few hours…
