Here's the Thing about The Thing

One of the podcasts I listen to a lot, Space the Nation, which I have posted about here before, did an episode on The Thing (John Carpenter’s The Thing) and it’s pretty good. I have LOTS of thoughts on the film, and have repeatedly had dreams about The Thing taking over earth. But I have a few evolving theories. For the first few viewings I have bought the idea that the Thing was out to take over the planet. BUT was it? My latest theory is that the Thing was just trying to leave earth but didn’t give a shit about talking to humans. But WHY didn’t it talk to people?? Of course it’s a monster movie, so just enjoy the monsters I guess. I love that movie so much though. But there are interesting tidbits in the podcast and an interesting discussion. In the very opening of The Thing though, it looks like the Thing’s space ship is crashing. It never went to earth on purpose! It crashed, and then gets woken up hundreds of thousands of years later. It probably wanted to go home. Anyway, The Thing lives in my head rent free. What did it really want? Where sis it come from? Why so aggressive?

There is also a fantastic short story by Peter Watts which retells the film from The Thing’s point of view. It is Peter Watts though so buckle in for references to rape, The Things . After I read this story I came up with a sequel to Peter Watt’s short story but never wrote it. It was kind of a good idea though about group minds, and instant communication via touch. But I’m not good at short stories.

I’ve had her for months and just never took pictures! I got the Imomo head and body from the DoA marketplace. As usual I took an hour to fine tune her outfit. The leggings are, I believe, SD size knee length leggings but they fit her chonk very well. I also think my ShouShou Coco head will be on the way back soon! It’s been ages! But the artists had some vet emergencies. I really wish I had more places to take decent indoos doll pics, but this ONE window is the onl decent one.

In game news: I think I have a good hndle on the R20 Kids on Brooms character sheets. I would like to run a one shot just to make sure and I might do it if I can acrape together guinea pigs.
