Pics or it didn’t happen! I actually hate that philosophy. It’s such garbage. Anyway, I did go to the Saturday protests. Didn’t stay for very long, only an hour or so. But the turnouts keep growing! Every time we go the crowd stretches another block. The only cops I saw were there for traffic control. There was a ton of support from people driving by. It’s heartening to see.
Of course the weekend was marred by politically motivated assassinations , escalating Middle East conflicts. Which I can’t speak on. I’m just a normie. I don’t know enough. AND this week saw the arrest of a NYC comptroller for asking ICE for warrants. The linked articles go to NPR and the Associated Press respectively. Both should be safe. And of course he’s not the only official arrested. lying under the radar is Rep. LaMonica McIvers: Rep. McIver is indicted on federal charges related to tussle at immigration facility. Yet another NPR link.
Blob help me I am late starting this post because I have been consumed by abstract art. I am trying out a bunch of stuff in the hope that at least 2-3 won’t humiliate me. I am going FULL COLLAGE PEOPLE!! OMFG!
I’m not sure if it helps or not but I have been looking at TONS of abstract art and holy cow, there are so many good abstract artists! One of my faves is KARIN WASKIEWICZ a lot of her work is posted on her website. It’s amazing! She layers paint super thick, letting it dry between layers and then carving it out to reveal the colors. It’s bonkers! She’s got to be using latex house paint. That’s my guess anyway. She’s on Insta if you want to look fer her work. There are photos of wood carving/linocut cutting tools so that’s what she uses to carve out the paint revealing the colors underneath.
It’s been a journey. I AM gratified that my art school training is still there. I can recognize good abstract art when I see it. I can even articulate what makes it good. I won’t bore you though. But it’s depressing because the quality is SO HIGH I can’t get there in the few short weeks I have to get there. So far this is the best thing I’ve done... :(
This is a riff on the wood panel pieces but it’s 6x8 done on acrylic paper. It’s okay. It’s not super special.
My salvation may be a palette knife painting class the art supply store is offering. It’s $60 not counting supplies and I keep wondering how much fucking money am I going to sink into this goddamn idiotic project?? Fuck. Also, I have learned the New York Central cotton watercolor blocks are the best bang for the buck. The paper behaves so much better than Fluid paper or Fluid cotton watercolor blocks. I will buy more when I can. My paycheck for June is not going to be good.
Dolls:
Okay, hear me out. Her name is Knify and she had fangs. And I love her.
LOL! I’m not going to get her! Don’t worry! She’s not limited or anything so it’s not a problem. But I have been sad-browsing in-stock dolls at a few places and cruising the Den of Angels marketplace. Denver Doll Emporium has a Luts 45 girl I have been eyeing for a couple years now. I check up on her regularly to make sure she’s still there. But it’s not a cheap doll! None of them are, but it’s a regular $300+ MSD which is not unreasonable but too expensive for me. Maybe someday! But I kind of doubt it.
EXCELLENT MOVIE ALERT! The Vourdalak is on Tubi!! It’s a French film and it rocks! Its a sort of folk horror/pre-Dracula “vampire” movie and it’s %100 worth the watch!
When I get too depressed I start hitting the Hallmark movies hard so that has been my main media consumption lately. I need mindless sweet bland entertainment right now. I can’t deal with anything else.
Hang in there…
Looks like a good number of people at the protest. My local protest was similar—good crowd, mostly supportive cars.
I love your abstracts. The colors in both, the soft textures in the first and the cool mosaic-like patterns in the second. Reminded me of galaxies and super novas.
Knify looks so tempting, but I’m tryin for No More Dolls. Over 100 is way too many! Totally hoardery. 😳
