Clay You Survive What's Coming
So my clay project is underway and I have a few things I need to get despite all the stuff I bought! I need some letter stamps for clay and the rolling pin dough sticks, that you put on either side of a rolling pin to get consistent thickness. I do NOT like working with the standard eye-pins. I have been trimming the length of the eye-pins with wire cutters and then curling the end to embed in the clay. But I would MUCH MUCH rather use eye-screws. I couldn’t find any at Michael’s and I regret not going to Craft Warehouse. I can also get them on ebay. But they eye-screws have “tooth” which will help them embed. I also got a nifty tip on all the YouTube tutorial. You can glue things to airdry clay when wet. Or rather INTO clay. So basically you dip the eye-screw into clear drying wood glue then put the screw in and let it dry. I have no personal experience of this working but it sounds legit?!?!?
Anyway the prototype is uhh…. well a prototype. So not great. I don’t have pin-backs or polyurethane. EVERYONE of the COOL kids use UV resin! But I can’t afford that right now. The PPE isn’t cheap, plus you need the UV lamp and the resin itself. I see so many people applying the UV resin with paint brushes but so many of the resin tutorials I watched, the people use silicone brushes. So I’d need to get more of those as well. I have some but they are for mixing paints.
Anyway, more of the Tiny Art Show! This is the last of it!
And THE WINNER OF THE ART SHOW IS——— DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!
This ABSOLUTE FUCKING MASTERPIECE!!! I wish I’d taken more and better pics of it. I love it so much!
Here is one of my works. Last of the red hot doggos! I haven’t drawn any more bookmarks in a while. It’s been a LOT of crafting deep dives on YouTube. Dang I wish I could sculpt. I am TRYING. So far it’s pretty fugly. I have an shopping list part 2 I need to work on. Sadly it will be awhile before I have anything respectable to show you. Maybe it’s just a lack of patience. Maybe it’s a lack of fine motor skills. I am clumsy and clunky and hamfisted. I also need new glasses!! ARG!!
I think should have let the clay dry out a bit before I started too. I forgot that was one of the tiopos for airdry clay. Sometimes it’s too soft right out of the package and works a bit better if it sits out for a 10 minutes or so. The airdry Sculpey is lovely and soft. Not too sticky and the terracotta isn’t even too bad. Anyway. The prototype doesn’t bode well… sigh…
